THREADS magazine, the premier publication for garment sewing enthusiasts, is looking for an editor with outstanding editing, writing and communication skills. The ideal candidate has a keen visual sensibility and can work with authors to generate compelling and informative how-to articles that inspire our readers to put needle to fabric and advance their skills in creating gorgeous garments.
Must have garment sewing knowledge and at least 2 years of magazine or newspaper editorial experience. Fashion, design or art background, and online publishing experience a plus. Must be an organized, detail oriented, creative, responsible self-starter who is excited about working in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to juggle multiple priorities and work well with writers, sewing professionals, and staff to meet deadlines. This full-time position requires moderate travel and relocation to the Connecticut area.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Edits raw manuscripts to produce fresh, lively, and informative magazine articles. Works with seasoned as well as new authors to develop and outline article ideas, conceptualize garments and how-to samples, and oversee story development (text and visuals). Working with editor and art director, develops art and/or photo plans to illustrate articles. May shoot photos or attend photo shoots. Reviews layouts, tight edits to fit copy, and reads pagemakes for accuracy.
• On assignment from editor, researches and writes articles for magazine.
• Produces at least one department for magazine.
• Produces blog posts and other online content for ThreadsMagazine.com.
• Assists in evaluating proposals for articles from prospective authors.
• Travels to attend sewing events, meets with authors, and builds industry contacts.
• At editor's request, answers mail from readers.
• Works on special issues and performs other duties as needed.

• Knowledge of sewing required.
• Online publishing experience a plus.
